so i just finally saw Frozen (SPOILERS AHEAD) and i just want to mention that when the head troll removes Anna’s memories his exact lines are:
Grand Pabbie: “I recommend we remove all magic, even memories of magic to be safe…”
Which reveals that the decision to remove Anna’s memory of Elsa’s powers was CLEARLY one made by Pabbie and NOT necessary soooo really everything is his fault.
With that one obtuse and pretty illogically unnecessary step he guaranteed everything that happened after. If Anna had continued to know about Elsa’s powers she could have supported her emotionally throughout her isolation, would have suffered less for being shut out (and therefore probably wouldn’t have fallen so easily for the first guy who said “I love you”), and would have been their to support her at the coronation (and probably never rip off one of her gloves in front of all the guests).
GOOD GOING GRAND PABBIE
Alright Tumblr! Let’s do this right this time! These are my original Disney themed cocktails! All drinks were made up, and I did not copy any existing material. Expect a part 2 in the near future! Please feel free to check out & support my Bartending Facebook page at Cocktails by Cody. Thanks! Now let’s get drunk off our childhood! (I do not own Disney’s trademarked characters, blah blah blah don’t sue me please…..)
I’m not too crazy for alcohol, but I’d drink all of this!!
These are too cool! People have such amazing talents…
nani was NINETEEN and such a fucking badass who was so protective of lilo and just ROLLED with aliens being a thing towards the end of the movie. #1 Disney relative of all time.
I have honestly been waiting AGES for the right gifset to express the wonderful perfection that is Nani. She is not only protective of Lilo, she respects the way Lilo’s imagination and quirkiness works.
Pudge the fish got a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday. Nani does not argue the logic of feeding him, only suggests an alternative sandwich when they are out of peanut butter. Lilo was allowed to take as many photos of whatever mundane or odd subjects as she wanted and Nani would get them developed. Nani recognized what were important habits for Lilo.
When Lilo asks for a pet lobster, Nani does not tell her that lobsters are not pets. She tells her, “We don’t have a lobster door, we have a dog door.” She makes sure the woman at the pound does not tell Lilo that “Stitch is not a real name”.
NANI SPENDS THE ENTIRE MOVIE MAKING SURE THAT LILO NEVER FEELS LIKE HER IDEAS ARE WRONG.
The only time we truly see Nani get angry with Lilo is when she is scared of Lilo being taken away. Nani spends the entire movie stressed out over taking care of her sister, trying to find a job, trying to make sure her sister has a friend, and yet she is always willing to put that extra effort, over and over again, to make sure that Lilo always believes that anything is possible.
my dream would be to write a movie as good as lilo and stitch
It’s happening. Disney isn’t content with the racist garbage that was the Lone Ranger movie… they’re now selling Tonto Halloween costumes. Petition here to have them stop selling these.
Please please please sign this guys. As of right now the petition only needs another 400 signatures!
Okay, can we talk about this scene for a minute? I’m sorry if this has been mentioned, but I have a lot of feels, so I need to spew them in a word vomit.
This is the scene in Lilo and Stitch when Nani’s come to the realization that she cannot take care of Lilo without a job, and she’s losing the last of her family.
She sings the song “Aloha O’e”. Which is a fairly familiar song for most people, even if you’ve never been to Hawaii. Now I had no idea the significance of this song other than the song had the word “aloha” and it means goodbye.
This is where it attacks you with feels. In case you didn’t know, Hawaii used to be a monarchy. And this song was written by their last Queen, QueenLiliʻuokalani when she was imprisoned and before her country was taken away:
…Another of her compositions was Aloha Oe, a song she had written previously and transcribed during her confinement. In her writings, she says “At first I had no instrument, and had to transcribe the notes by voice alone; but I found, notwithstanding disadvantages, great consolation in composing, and transcribed a number of songs. Three found their way from my prison to the city of Chicago, where they were printed, among them the “Aloha Oe” or “Farewell to Thee,” which became a very popular song”. Originally written as a lovers’ good-bye, the song came to be regarded as a symbol of, and lament for, the loss of her country.
So this song is her lament of losing her country to invaders and outsiders because she was unable to take care of it.
Just like Nani was unable to take care of Lilo.
Nani who grew up learning about the proud heritage of Hawaii and their monarchy and their queen. She not only feels failure as a sister and guardian, but also as a Hawaiian. She’s not able to protect what is hers from outsiders. Someone has come, yet again, with legal prescient to take away what she should have taken care of.
I must say, Disney, this is how you do cultural significance. This is how you pay homage. This is how you do respect.
AND I JUST HAVE SO MANY FEELS.
as a hawaiian, it makes me really happy to know that you understand how significant that song was.
Disney occasionally does it right. There is so much right with Lilo and Stitch.
So I just need to get this off my chest:
For me David Kawena from Lilo and Stitch is the ultimate Disney prince because he is there for Nani AND Lilo and even Stitch despite everything that’s going on in their lives. They’re going through some tough stuff. Their parents die and all of the sudden Nani has to be a mom to her sister who is socially awkward and depressed and that’s hard enough as it is and then she gets her this ‘dog’ and everything gets harder and even though she can’t return David’s feelings he’s still there for them through everything. Even aliens. He’s amazing. I was watching Lilo and Stitch with my niece the other day and I cried watching David go through it all. He is the perfect guy. Like I just get emotional thinking about him.
Imagine if you had someone like David in your life - male or female. You would feel like a prince/princess even if you were living with next to nothing.
David is the ultimate Disney prince - even though he isn’t a Disney prince. He should be considered one.
Disney rant - over.
Reminder that David:
-has no curse to break
-does not have a deadline/ultimatum to find a wife
-has no financial/social gain from being with Nani
-is told 1/4 of the way into the movie that Nani is too busy to worry about dating him AND PROCEEDS TO BE HELPFUL AND SUPPORTIVE ANYWAY.
David’s not a Disney prince because he’s too fucking awesome for that title.
AN ACTUAL NON-IRONIC,NON-SELF DESCRIBING NICE GUY.
A PROPER HUMAN BEING.
